God, life, family, and chaos with the Louies
Summer 1989. Family just moved back to Fairfax from Baton Rouge, LA. Our house was needing some cleaning, so my mother, sister and I rented a carpet cleaning vacuum. We end up spending the day cleaning the house, 3 floors, before moving the boxes and furniture.
Summer 2011. A friend tells us that Groupon has a deal. $49 for $99 carpet cleaning. 2 rooms and a hallway. I sigh… not for me, but my wife wants it. I hesitate, like always, why pay for something that you can do yourself. (I am Chinese after all… ahem, frugal…).
Anyways, friend takes our credit card and ends up purchasing it for us. Earlier in December my wife schedules an appointment with them to come this Monday between 9-11AM.
We wait, and wait, getting a little bit impatient, I end up calling them. Oh yes, your appointment is between 2-3PM. Um, excuse me? We scheduled in the morning, when were you going to let us know? Sorry.
We wait, and wait, and wait… between 3-4 we call and we call… no answer, no one coming…
Around 5PM the company calls again, oh sorry, we were delayed, we can be there in the next two hours… yeah, right, we think to ourselves… just overall frustrated, we say ok, come on over.
Around 8:30PM, we call again, not sure why, maybe hoping for something in return, something to report to Groupon, I call just to see what happened. The guy picks up and makes another excuse. It’s been a bad day. Ok. Sure. A bad day. He goes on and asks do you want me to come over now… around 9PM?
Thanks but no thanks.
Tuesday. I end up going to Giants, rented a rug doctor for $26 and solution for $20. I did my bedrooms, stairs and basement in about 2 hours… with plenty of solution left to do a couple more houses… not bad, a little bit of a learning curve, but done for less than the cost of the Groupon + time.
Not bad for a couple hours work. Perhaps my next venture.
